«Andelslandbruk» is known as community-supported agriculture in English. Mandalen Andelslandbruk is located about 40 minutes outside of Kristiansand and is a cooperation between two professional farmers, Brit Mjåland from Mjåland Gård and Birthe Usland from GrissliGodt.
Ownership is based on a cooperative model, or in Norwegian «samvirke.» You pay a small one-time membership fee of 400 NOK, and each year choose how many shares you would like to purchase. One share of organic vegetables costs 2500 NOK and should be enough for one person’s consumption for the season. A share of 15 kilos of free-range pork costs 1800 and 15 kilos of beef is 2250. The meat is delivered divided and vacuum-packed once a year.
The board is already working on a system for coordinating harvesting and delivery so that, for example, share-owners in Kristiansand share driving and delivery throughout the season so that everyone gets fresh vegetables every week but driving is minimized.
If you are interested in membership but do not speak Norwegian, please contact Clare Jortveit for more information: email@example.com.
